About the Construction Safety Network

In April 2001, the BC Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association partnered with WorkSafeBC to found the BC Road Construction and Maintenance Safety Network, an organization dedicated to making the road construction and maintenance industry a safer place to work. At the time, the Safety Network's mandate was limited to all employers registered in the 7230 Road Construction and Maintenance sub-sector.

In January 2003, the Safety Network began offering their constituents programs and services which evolved to include the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program, the Traffic Control Person (TCP) program, a research library, a quarterly membership publication entitled The LINK, a semi-annual publication for TCP trainers called Point to Point and a website. Additional programs have since been added.

A major change took place in late 2004, with the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of BC (ICBA) agreeing to become part of the Safety Network. A shift in focus from road construction and maintenance to all construction, both horizontal and vertical, as well as heavy construction, officially took place in January 2005. Since that time, the Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC, the BC Ready-Mixed Concrete Association, and the Aggregate Producers Association of BC have also joined. To better represent the entire construction industry which it services, the organization is now known as the Construction Safety Network.
