Small Business COR program

Certificate of Recognition for small companies (19 or fewer employees)

News

Launch of the NEW Small Business COR program with increased rebates of 15% from WorkSafeBC

About the Small Business COR Program

The Certificate of Recognition (COR) is a nationally recognized program that the Construction Safety Network specifically designed in conjunction with WorkSafe BC to assist the construction industry in improving its safety culture. The COR program has proven to be extremely successful in increasing the safety culture of all employers who have taken part in the program. The NEW Small Business COR program helps owners of small construction companies understand and manage their health and safety responsibilities reducing workplace injuries and site delays.

Companies that become certified are now eligible for up to a 15% rebate on their WorkSafe BC premiums. With the increased rebates covering participation costs smaller companies, such as home builders, can take advantage of becoming COR program certified and benefit from the money they will save and the improved safety performance and culture they will experience. Those companies who are already at various stages of the COR program will be automatically eligible for the increased rebates.

The total annual WorkSafeBC Rebate will be calculated as a percentage of the base assessment rate from the previous year, multiplied by the company’s total assessable payroll reported from the previous year for each classification unit in which the participating employer qualifies for a WorkSafeBC Rebate.

CALCULATION: Assessable Payroll ÷ 100 x Rate x 15% = Refund

EXAMPLE: 750,000 ÷ 100 x 4.29 x 15% = $4,826.25

The minimum rebate is the lesser of $500 or 50% of the premiums paid by the employer for the rebate year being calculated.

How do I get started?

The COR program is free and available to companies registered in WorkSafe BC’s Construction Sub-Sector 721, 722, and 723; applications received from other companies are determined on a case by case basis.
